DOCENT COUNCIL

The Docent Council 2019-20

The MMFA Education Department welcomes the Docent Council as an active participant in the Docent Education Program. To fully engage all docents, the council members agree to act in the following capacity:
​

Chairperson:  Paula Smith
Co-Chair: Gretchen Sippial
Docent at Large:   Frank Gitschier
​New Docent Representative:  Wanda Hill
Weekend/Evening Representative:  Barbara DeMichel

Council Member Descriptions
CHAIRMAN:
  • Lead (4) Docent Council and (2) Docent Only meetings
  • Ensure that docent handouts are available in the docent lounge
  • Assist Co-chair with social duties and correspondence as necessary
  • Be available to mentor docents
  • Help clarify docent program policies
  • Act in a leadership role by encouraging positive feedback and boosting morale

CO-CHAIRMAN: 
  • Send cards (condolence, illness, etc.) and collect funds*
  • Plan social activities and coordinate refreshments for weekday training sessions
          *please note, staff cannot receive these funds
  • Report on finances at Docent Council meeting
  • Lead meetings in the Chair’s absence
  • Assist Chair with handouts as necessary
  • Be available to mentor docents
  • Help clarify docent program policies
  • Act in a leadership role by encouraging positive feedback and boosting morale

DOCENT AT LARGE:
  • Prepare agendas and minutes for (4) Docent Council meetings
  • Take notes at (4) Docent Council and (2) Docent Only meetings
  • Prepare summaries of (2) Docent Only meetings
  • Assist Co-chair with social duties and correspondence as necessary
  • Be available to mentor docents
  • Help clarify docent program policies
  • Act in a leadership role by encouraging positive feedback and boosting morale

NEW DOCENT REPRESENTATIVE:
  • Welcome new docents into the group and staff team
  • Help new docents gather docent materials (handbook, etc.)
  • Encourage new docents to seek out a mentor
  • Report on new docent experience at Docent Council Meetings
  • Take notes at meetings in absence of Docent at Large
  • Be available to mentor docents
  • Help clarify docent program policies
  • Act in a leadership role by encouraging positive feedback and boosting morale

WEEKEND/EVENING DOCENT REPRESENTATIVE (1): 
  • Report on Weekend and Evening Docent experience at Docent Council meetings
  • Facilitate team atmosphere between evening and weekday programs
  • Be available to mentor docents
  • Help clarify docent program policies
  • Act in a leadership role by encouraging positive feedback and boosting morale
