Learning Objectives

Learning Objectives
- Connect to the puppet show by exploring the basic elements of art (line/shape/color).
- Engage children in discussion that allows them to explore works of art.
- Encourage the children to look at the art for themselves and make their own observations.
- Connect to other basic concepts in The Art of Baking puppet show (warm & cool colors/portraits/landscapes).
- Hi, my name is ______ and I am so happy y’all are here!
- Did everyone enjoy the puppet show?
- Raise your hand if you would like to tell me something about art that you learned from the puppet show.
- Very good! We learned about ________! Let’s look at this painting. Do we see any ______ in this painting? Raise your hand if you would like to name _________you see.
- Ok awesome! So this painting is called ________, by _________. What do we think is going on here?
- Wonderful! Does anyone else want to share what they think could be happening in this painting? (Follow student discussion, and continue to offer the opportunity for different children to share their ideas about the artwork. Then move on to concepts such as portraits, landscapes, patterns, and warm and cool colors. These terms might take more direct prompting, but you can keep a conversational tone. This is a great time to transition to a different painting in your gallery.)
- Now, there were some very special art terms we learned about in the puppet show. One of them was “landscape.” Would someone raise their hand if they remember why a painting is called a landscape?
- OK, yes! A landscape is a picture of land. So, does anyone see a landscape among these paintings?
- Very good! What do we see in the painting that tells us it is a landscape? (The same line of questioning works for portrait, pattern, and warm and cool colors. You can personalize your questions depending on which gallery you are in and which paintings you will be looking at with the children.)
- Very good! Thank you all so much for coming to the Museum today! We hope you had fun and that you will come back to the Museum again soon!
